Officers were called to the area of 26 Main St., after 5 p.m. after a group of people called to say that a man drove by them several times and appeared to be upset with them, police said.

"He drove by them several times and gave them the eye," Capt. Richard Conklin said. "People feel he might be armed."

When officers arrived, the motorist became hostile to them, Conklin said. A search of the vehicle turned up a pair of large kitchen knives, police said.

Evan R. Birch-Whitaker, 32, of 56 Klondike St., was charged with illegal possession of weapon in a motor vehicle. He was released to appear in court on July 13.
