STAMFORD, Conn., -- Stamford Police didn’t get their man but they got his gun – a gun they believe was involved in a shooting last week, police said.

The Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime unit had information on a suspect who was carrying a gun in the area of Southfield Village and Durant Street at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Capt. Richard Conklin said.

“After some time, they see this party and they make a move on him and there is a foot pursuit and he jumps a number of fences,” Conklin said.

The pursuing officers saw the man drop a handgun, and they recovered a fully loaded revolver, he said. Officers set up a perimeter in the area and brought in a couple of police dogs to aid in the search, police said. But the suspect was not found.

“It looks like he broke the perimeter,” Conklin said.

Police were continuing the investigation Wednesday and believe it’s linked to an incident last week when a man fired shots at another man in the same area.
