Jaquan Dilday, 21, of Waterbury, was arrested Monday, Oct. 12, and charged with second-degree larceny, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit and interfering with police in the incident Sept. 28, police said.
His bail was set at $150,000, police say.
In a Facebook post, the Stamford Police Department recognized Officers Stempien and Brace "for acquiring enough forensic evidence from the scene and from a phone left behind that ultimately led to the identification of Dilday."
The incident began at about 8 a.m. Sept. 28, when Stamford police were notified of a stolen SUV in the area of Ridgeway Shopping Center, police said.
As an officer attempted to stop the car, the operator drove off, according to police. The pursuit ended when the SUV crashed into a parked car on Borglum Street, police said, and the driver took off on foot.
The suspect, identified later as Dilday, ran through several backyards and made it onto Cold Spring Road, where officers lost sight of him, police said. He dropped a cellphone during the foot chase, which was used to help identify him, police said. The cellphone included selfies of the suspect, police said.
