Kevin Stone, 25, was working at a resort in Jamaica when he started a relationship with a Stamford woman who was visiting there and kept it going after she returned to Stamford, Sgt. Sean Scanlan said. Stone visited her and eventually persuaded the woman to marry him in April when he became abusive, the sergeant said.
He was charged with third-degree assault and sexual assault on a spouse, police said. He is held on $25,000 bond as well as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, Scanlan said.
Stone denied the charges, the sergeant said.
Investigators found that Stone had acted in a similar fashion with two other American women, wooing them at the resort he was working at and trying to marry them to get his Visa, Scanlan said. One of the other victims did not want to cooperate with police, and the other told investigators that Stone became abusive after she denied his proposal and she ended the relationship, the sergeant said.
