Cory J. Roath turned himself in to police on Thursday, Dec. 14, and was charged with second-degree harassment.
Roath left a "harassing" voicemail message for an employee of a Wells Fargo Bank in New Canaan at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 17, according to police.
"The content of the message indicated that a murder had occurred and the body had been hidden," New Canaan police said in a statement. The caller said he was involved in the murder, and he would kill himself if police found him, police said.
The employee "was upset by the message and concerned as to whether a crime as mentioned in the message had actually occurred," police said.
New Canaan officers investigated and were able to determine where the call came from, police said. With the help of New Britain police, Roath was identified as a suspect, police said.
It was also determined that the crime had not occurred, police said. When questioned, Roath said it was a "prank call," police said.
Roath was arrested on a warrant and released after posting $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 27.
