Ernesto Alicia, 49, was charged with criminal attempt at third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief and interfering with an officer. He was held on $15,000 bond and will appear in court Nov. 12.
Westport police said the warrant stems from an investigation into two separate incidents in September and October. In both cases, individuals tried to steal the contents of an ATM at the Mobil Self-Serve on Post Road East. Both times the individuals tried to pry open the ATM to steal the money inside, according to police.
During the October incident, officers interrupted the attempt and Alicia engaged officers in a motor vehicle pursuit and evaded capture, according to police reports.
During the investigation Alicia was identified as a suspect in both incidents, and police applied for a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody by Stamford police on Wednesday.
