Officers received complaints of “large groups of adult males in the park on a daily basis, selling narcotics as well as gambling,” Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said.

When officers arrived at Carwin Park at 75 Spruce St., in the city’s West Dnd, they found 20 to 25 men broken up in two groups playing cards, Shawinsky said. About 10 children were nearby as well.

Officers could smell marijuana and noticed that one of the men appeared to be nervous, Shawinsky said. Officers searched the man and discovered several small packages of marijuana, he said.

Christopher Boyd, 22, of 446 Courtland Ave., was charged with possession of a controlled substance and sale of a controlled substance.

He posted $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court on June 18.
