Rasheed Hines, 31, of 16 Orlando Ave., was charged with four counts of third-degree criminal mischief; one count each of interfering with an office and breach of peace; and two felony counts of interfering with a police officer. Those two counts relate to the injuries the officers suffered in the pursuit.

Hines was held on $50,000 bond for a court appearance Thursday.

The incident began at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday when an officer saw a man throw what appeared to be a rock against a police cruiser, police said.

When the officer approached the man, he ran toward Dolan Place, police said.  A foot pursuit ensued north onto Hoyt Street, out to Summer Street and then onto the property of 1100 Summer St., police said.

The suspect ran up the parking garage ramp and proceeded to jump down a 10- to 12-foot wall, continuing his run toward Franklin Street, police said.

A police perimeter was set up in the area in the hopes of flushing him out to waiting officers, police said, and he was eventually observed running behind houses on Franklin Street.

The suspect ran through two wooden fences, damaging both in the process, police said. He also damaged a third fence as he made his way out onto Washington Boulevard, police said.

The suspect was apprehended in the area of Washington Boulevard and Linden Place, police said.

The officers were injured when their two cruisers collided at the intersection of Woodside and Franklin streets during the pursuit. They were treated at Stamford Hospital with head, back, neck and knee injuries, police said.

Hines was treated at Stamford Hospital for bruising and cuts he suffered during the incident, police said.

In the rock-throwing incident that started the chase, patrol vehicle #26 sustained chipped paint on the rear passenger door, police said. The rock used appeared to be a chunk of cement block, police said.
