Man, 72, Charged With Strangling Fellow Resident At Stamford Home

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 72-year-old man attacked a fellow resident at a Southfield Avenue residence Monday morning, including trying to strangle him, Stamford police said.

Max Morette, of 51 Southfield Ave., was charged with first-degree strangulation, assault on an elderly person and disorderly conduct. 

Police said the 74-year-old man was attacked in the common area of the residence at about 6 a.m. by a man who punched him a couple of times and then placed something around his neck and attempted to strangle him.

The attacker then dragged the victim back to the victim's apartment and left him there, police said.

The victim told officers he didn't know why he was attacked, police said. The man also said he had passed out after the attack and awakened at 7:15 a.m., police said. Police didn't know whether his passing out was related to the attack.

The victim had a red ligature mark around his neck, police said.

A neighbor later called police. Shortly after officers arrived at about 10 a.m., the suspect returned to the residence and was arrested, police said.

The victim later went to the hospital to be checked, police said.
