Idaho Sex Offender Found In Darien Woods With 10-inch Machete

DARIEN, Conn. – An Idaho man convicted of raping a child under the age of 1 was arrested Tuesday after he was found camping near the Darien Nature Center, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Brian Cook was found in possession of a 10-inch machete when he was found sleeping about 7:30 a.m. in the woods at Cherry Lawn Park, according to the Stamford Advocate, which reported officers soon discovered the 35-year-old had an extensive criminal history in Idaho and Oregon.

Citing the Idaho Sex Offender Registry, the Stamford Advocate reported that Cook’s rape conviction came in August 2011.

Darien police arrested Cook, accusing him of carrying a dangerous weapon, violating a town ordinance against camping, and resisting arrest, according to the Stamford Advocate, which reported that bond was set at $25,000

Cook, who has an active warrant for his arrest on a charge of violating his probation in Idaho, was held without bond as a fugitive from justice, according to the Stamford Advocate.
