Former Stamford Man Sentenced For Child Porn

STAMFORD, Conn. — A former Stamford resident was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in prison on a child pornography charge, a release from David B. Fein, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut said.

On March 2, 2010 agents from the Connecticut Computer Crimes Task Force sear ched the Stamford residence of Juan Carlos Melendez, 33, a citizen of Peru, at which time he admitted to having about 90 gigabytes of child pornographic images and video, the release said. Analysis revealed more than 17,000 images and 370 videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, the release said.

Images and videos depicted sadistic and masochistic conduct with minors, and thousands depicted toddlers and infants being sexually abused by adult men, the release said.

A forensic review also found that he had shared the pornography with others, the release said.

Melendez was arrested in November 2010 and pleaded guilty on April 18, 2012, to one count of receipt of child pornography, the release said. In addition to his prison sentence, handed down in U.S. District Court in Hartford, he will be on lifetime supervised release, and ordered to pay $3,500 each to two victims, the release said.

Following his prison sentence he will face deportation charges, the release said.
