STAMFORD, Conn. — Police arrested a suspect Monday who admitted to being involved in a shooting at a Stamford restaurant last week, Capt. Richard Conklin said.

Daniel Vergez Jr., 27, of Stamford is accused of firing three shots into the ceiling of the vestibule at Mary Ann’s Mexican Restaurant on Summer Street about 1:30 a.m. Dec. 23. After firing, he and other witnesses left the scene, Conklin said.

No injuries were reported.

Vergez is a former bouncer at the restaurant, Conklin said. While searching his residence, police found a 9 mm handgun that matched the shell casings found at the scene, the captain said.

Police also seized two other handguns and a shotgun from the residence, Conklin said. Vergez had permits for the weapons, he said.

Vergez admitted to the shooting while being questioned, and told police that a disturbance had broken out and he felt threatened, Conklin said.

Vergez was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment, and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 14.
