Driver Killed, Passenger Injured In Fiery Car Crash In New Fairfield

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A fiery car crash on Route 39 near a bar in New Fairfield early Sunday left the driver dead and a passenger in the hospital with serious injuries, according to the News-Times.  

The fatal crash occurred on Route 39, just past the center of New Fairfield but before Candlewood Lake.

The car was southbound on Route 39 at 12:50 a.m. when it hit a utility pole and burst into flames near the ICONS Sports Bar, state police told the News-Times. 

Route 39 was closed until about 4:30 p.m. Sunday due to the fatal crash, First Selectman Susan Chapman said. The road had been closed at Saw Mill Road since the accident overnight and into the afternoon on Sunday. 

State police, who did not know the driver's identity, were continuing to investigate, the News-Times said.
