The crash back in January sent a state trooper to the hospital, state police said.
Brian Glasser, who turned himself in to State Police on Wednesday, was arrested and charged with following too closely, distracted driving, reckless driving, first-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree assault.
At 8:19 a.m. Jan. 23, state troopers responded to an unrelated motor vehicle accident on northbound Route 7 just north of Exit 12 in Brookfield, state police said.
The accident was in the left travel lane. Trooper First Class Karen Nixon parked her marked cruiser, with the emergency lights activated, near the crash scene, state police said.
This provided additional protection as another trooper investigated and a tow truck responded to clear the accident scene, police said.
"Despite a clear sight line of 1,700 feet," Glasser continued driving in the left lane at a high rate of speed, state police said.
Glasser slammed into with Nixon's cruiser, pushing the car 70 feet forward and extensively damaging both vehicles, police said.
Nixon was transported to Danbury Hospital and is still off the job, state police said. Glasser complained of minor injuries but declined medical attention, state police said.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Glasser, and he turned himself in on Wednesday.
He was released on bond for an Aug. 8 court date.
