Przemyslaw Nagorski, 26, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless operation and disobeying the signal of an officer. He was held on $500 bond and will appear in court Friday, July 18.
About 11:40 a.m. two officers were on special-duty traffic assignments on Leroy Avenue near West Avenue when they saw a green pickup truck traveling toward them, police said.
Both officers were wearing yellow uniform shirts identifying them as police as they directed traffic. One officer gave a signal for the pickup truck to stop, but the driver continued, according to police reports. The officer was forced to move out of the way, and the truck drove over several traffic cones that had been part of the traffic pattern, police said.
The second officer gave the signal for the truck to stop and was also forced to jump out of the way as the truck narrowly missed hitting him, police said. Neither officer was injured.
A description of the truck was sent out, and it was located shortly after in a parking lot in the downtown Darien area.
Police said the driver, Nagorski, exhibited signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. After he was taken into custody and moved to headquarters, it was determined that his blood alcohol level was nearly four times the legal limit, according to police.
