The man, 55, was attempting to put the fire, which was burning on the front porch, front exterior wall and roof, with water from inside the house. Darien Police also attempted to help out with fire extinguishers to no avail.
Darien, Noroton Heights and Noroton Fire Departments responded arrived on scene and were able to contain the majority of fire to the front portion of the residence. The house sustained heavy damage, but the two other residents were not harmed.
The man who was fighting the fire was taken to Stamford Hospital where he was treated for his burns as well as for smoke inhalation, officials said.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
