Michael James Miner, 58, was charged with three counts of third-degree assault, three counts of unlawful restraint and one count each of first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was held on $100,000 bond for a court appearance Monday in state Superior Court in Stamford.
Miner, who had been drinking, exploded in a jealous rage against his wife and began punching her leaving her with bruises on her face, police said.
He destroyed the living room and the bedroom of the victim’s Hope Street residence and did not allow her to leave on at least three occasions during his rampage, police said. As the woman cowered in her bed, he swung a full-size ax above her head, police said.
Miner has been previously convicted of first-degree robbery and assault on a police officer in addition to the first-degree sexual assault of a 13-year-old, police said.
