Car Fire Reported On Southbound Merritt Near Stamford

7 p.m. update: NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Stop-and-go traffic continued on the Merritt Parkway in both directions at 7 p.m. Friday, but the accident involving a car fire had been cleared, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said.

Traffic jams were still reported in both directions near Exit 35 in Stamford and back into New Canaan and Norwalk.

Original story: NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A car fire was reported at about 6 p.m. Friday, March 7, on the southbound side of the Merritt Parkway In New Canaan, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said.

The accident is on the southbound side of Route 15 between Exits 36 for Route 106 and Exit 35 for High Ridge Road/Route 137 in Stamford. 

The right lane was blocked on the southbound side between Exit 40 for Main Avenue in Norwalk and Exit 35 in Stamford.

Traffic jams and congestion was reported on both sides of the Merritt Parkway throughout the area.  

The DOT warned of significant delays along the Merritt Parkway.
