STAMFORD, Conn. -- A burned-out headlight on an Audi A6 led to the arrest of two Stamford men on serious drug charges late Wednesday, police said.

Two officers noticed the malfunctioning headlight and stopped the car on Hope Street near Colonial Road at 11:45 p.m., police said.

When the officers approached the car, they could smell marijuana and asked driver Donnacha Michael O’Dwyer, 20, of 23 Penzance Road, whether there was anything illegal inside, police said. He said there was marijuana, police said.

O’Dwyer consented to a police search of his car as he and passenger Daniel Vincent Massa, 19, of 44 Judy Lane, exited the vehicle, police said. Officers discovered a plastic bag with 112 grams of marijuana and a separate bag containing 12 grams of marijuana in plain view on the floor of the front passenger side, police said.

A further search turned up a shopping bag with 24 small ziplock baggies inside, a box containing an additional 39 ziplock baggies and an electronic scale, police said.

Police said Massa also had $2,200 in cash in his possession.

Both men are charged with operating a drug factory, conspiracy to operate a drug factory, sale of a controlled substance, possessing more than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and sale of a controlled substance, police said.

Massa’s bond was set at $5,000. O’Dwyer’s bond was set at $1,500.

Both men were given a court date of July 31.

And the headlight? O’Dwyer was given a ticket for not having a headlight.
