Bridgeport Police Investigate Shooting Death Of Man In Restaurant Argument

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A 36-year-old man is dead after he was shot during an alcohol-fueled argument in a Mexican restaurant Sunday night, said a Bridgeport spokesman.

Cristibal Hernandez, 36 of Bridgeport was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where he later died, spokesman Av Harris said Monday.

The shooting occurred at about 10 p.m. at El Paraiso Restaurant at 1026 Madison Ave., Harris said.

"What we suspect happened is that two men got into an altercation inside the Paraiso Restaurant," Harris wrote in an email. "Both had been consuming alcohol. The altercation escalated, resulting in the male suspect opening fire and inflicting the fatal gunshot wound into the victim's chest."

This fatal shooting does not appear to be gang related, Harris added. There was no information on the suspect.

It was the eighth homicide of 2016 in Bridgeport, police said.
