Benefits Scheduled For Injured Stamford Cop

STAMFORD, Conn. — As Stamford Police Officer Troy Strauser continues to recover after falling 20 feet while chasing a suspect, two fundraisers will be held to help his family pay its bills, the Stamford Police Association said.

“It’s nice to know the public has our back,” said Sgt. Joseph Kennedy, president of the police union.

Strauser, who was injured May 17 during a foot chase in Norwalk, was released from the hospital May 25. He has been doing rehabilitation work since then, and doctors are pleased with his progress, Kennedy said. They are hopeful that Strauser will continue to improve, he said.

“So far Troy is doing really well," Kennedy said. “He is ready to deal with it head on.”

Strauser fell down a steep embankment on Interstate 95 at Exit 14 and suffered injuries to his face, arm and internal organs. He is grateful for the support he has received from people both in and out of law enforcement, Kennedy said.

The first fundraiser will be a pig roast at 1 p.m. July 8 held by the Darien Police Association at the Piedmont Lounge, 152 Hecker Ave., Darien. The cost is $40, which includes food and drinks. For tickets, contact Kennedy at 203-751-7264 or at jkennedy@stamfordspa.com.

The second will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. July 11 at Fairway Market, 699 Canal St., Stamford. Registered shoppers can donate 25 percent of their purchase to the Strausers. Shoppers must register to make a donation.

The proceeds of both events will go toward the family, and both are open to the public.
