Officials would like to remind people to take the necessary steps to dramatically reduce the risk of death or injury in a home fire.
Working smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a residential fire by at least 50 percent.
The Red Cross has programs to install free smoke alarms in Stamford area residences.
