14-Year-Old Girl Charged With Assaulting Detectives In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 14-year-old girl turned into a terror for a pair of Greenwich detectives, who were scratched and spit at by the out-of-control teen when they went to pick her up on a Stamford juvenile court warrant Wednesday morning, Stamford police said.

A 14-year-old Greenwich girl was charged with assaulting two Greenwich Police officers who had gone to Stamford to take her into custody Wednesday morning.

The two female detectives learned the girl was at a residence on Custer Street in Stamford and went there on a "take into custody order" shortly before 10 a.m. However, the teen had different ideas and began acting aggressively, spitting, flailing her arms and striking the detectives, police said.

The detectives suffered scratches and had swelling and red marks on their faces and necks, said Sgt. Sean McGowan.

Stamford police were called to assist the Greenwich detectives, but when officers arrived a Stamford police sergeant who was at the scene earlier had been able to handcuff the teen, police said.

However, she continued to be obstreperous, including "foul-mouthed hollering" as she continued to cause a commotion, including spitting in the back seat of the police cruiser, McGowan said.

The teen was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and taken into custody.

Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said the two detectives went to the hospital to have their injuries checked and documented. Police were looking for the teen because she had broken conditions she had to abide by, including following house rules, attending school and not using drugs. Gray said.

Police did not identify the teen by name because she is under 18 years of age.
