STAMFORD, Conn. A Stamford man was shot and killed and three others were injured on Custer Street early Sunday morning, Capt. Richard Conklin said.
Conklin believes the shooting was an ambush, and that two men, one with a gun, jumped out from behind a parked car and shot the victims as they approached. Many shell casings were found near the scene from the same, semi-automatic handgun, the captain said.
The dead man was identified as Darious Jones, 21, who recently finished a five-year sentence for a home invasion, where he tied up an elderly woman, Conklin said. The other three received non-life-threatening wounds. As of Sunday, one had been released from the hospital, he said.
The names of the other victims will not be released, Conklin said.
Additional shots were fired near Custer Street around 1:30 a.m. while police were at the scene of the shooting, Conklin said. Police were also called to a residence on the Custer Street earlier Saturday on complaints of shots fired and a loud, disorderly party, he said.
Two people were arrested for minor incidents during the first call, and police were transporting them when the fatal shooting took place, the captain said.
Police were unsure whether the killing was gang- or drug-related, he said. We really dont have a theory yet, Conklin said, asking that people with information come forward.
