William Aubrey Sutton, 90, Of Stamford, WWII Veteran

STAMFORD, Conn. - William Aubrey Sutton of Stamford Sunday, Feb. 2. He was 90.

Sutton was born Dec. 11, 1923, to Joseph Aubrey Sutton and Victoria Fauth in Philadelphia, Pa. He spent his high school years at Phillips Andover Academy in Massachusetts, graduating in 1938. He graduated from Wesleyan University. He was drafted in the army in 1941 and was sent to Europe to fight in World War II, serving in the signal core decoding enemy messages.

After graduating from Wesleyan in 1946, he was accepted into Harvard and Columbia Law School. He earned his law degree in 1949. He began work in corporate law for Olin Corporation in New York. In 1971 he settled in Stamford. Upon retirement in 1986 he volunteered in many capacities, including tax preparation for H&R Block, as president of the Senior Men’s Club, as a driver for FISH, and as president of the Residence Committee at Atria Senior Living.

Sutton is survived by his sons, David Aubrey Sutton (Chantal Plescia) of Castres, France and John William Sutton of Podgorica, Montenegro; daughters, Edie Sutton of Ridgefield and Ann Sutton Baldassare of Bridgeport; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Victoria Hirsch of Ocala, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents; and wife, Cleve Sutton. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 22 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1231 Washington Blvd., Stamford, CT 06902. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the The Wounded Warrior Project .
