Theia Gray Poczabut, 93, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. - Theia Gray Poczabut of Stamford died Thursday, Nov. 21. She was 93.

Poczabut was born Aug. 22, 1920, in West Burke, Vt., to Ray and Charlotte McFarland Gray. She was a graduate of Lyndon Institute, class of 1938, Lyndon Center, Vt., a graduate of the Stamford Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1941 having received her nursing degree. Following her graduation she worked for her uncle, Dr. Frederick McFarland as his nurse in his OBGYN practice in Stamford. She was a member and past president of the Garden Club of Glenbrook. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Auxiliary and volunteered with the Red Cross. She was a parishioner of St. Leo’s Parish and served on the Rosary Altar Society for many years.

Poczabut is survived by her children, Robert Poczabut (Donna) of Burlington, Vt., Charlotte Kane (Joseph) and Mary Poczabut both of Stamford; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Dr. John S. Poczabut and sisters, Leah Wells and Frieda B. Gray.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25 at St Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Interment will be private.
