An avid supporter of the arts, Malloy was honored on her 90th birthday with an exhibit at the Westport Arts Center called “Susan Malloy: In the Studio.” (Read about that exhibit here on the Daily Voice.)

"It was with heavy heart that I learned of the passing of longtime Westporter, Susan Malloy," Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe said a statement. "Like so many Westporters, Susan was an active volunteer and generous supporter of organizations such as the Westport Historical Society and the League of Women Voters. But, of course, her true passion was expression through artistic endeavors.

"This passion is emblematic of Westport’s commitment to the arts, and Susan was a leader and active participant in the town’s arts scene up until her very last days."

Marpe recalled the exhibit a year ago for Malloy's birthday and praised her support of the annual Malloy Arts Lecture at the Westport Library and contributions to the Westport Arts Center.

"Her 90th birthday exhibit at the Westport Arts Center was simply awe-inspiring. Susan was a visionary throughout her entire life," he said.

"Our town was the beneficiary of her gracious presence and artistic ability. ... To paraphrase Henry Ward Beecher, 'Every artist dips her brush in her own soul, and paints her own nature into her pictures.'

"How lucky that the town of Westport had the opportunity to experience Susan’s soul through her pictures. Her philanthropy, quiet enthusiasm and commitment to the arts will be sorely missed."

Services will held Friday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 1 E. 65th St., New York City. Calling hours are Thursday, April 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home, 1076 Madison Ave. at 81st Street. A Westport memorial service is planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave., Westport, CT 06880.
