STAMFORD, Conn. - Catherine “Rina” Carlis Grosso, of Stamford, died Sunday, March 3. She was 78.
Grosso was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Alexander and Viola Karukas Carlis. She had lived in Stamford since 1947 and attended Rogers School and was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1952. She was the office manager at C.W. Pond Electric Service for 15 years and retired as office manager of Greenwich Orchids in Bedford, N.Y.
Grosso was choir director and soloist at the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church for more than 50 years. She also served as president and corresponding secretary of the Archangels Ladies Philoptochos Society and was past president of the Archangels Seniors. She was a longtime chorister and treasurer of the Greenwich Chorale Society and was a volunteer at the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center.
Grosso is survived by her husband William; three sons, William III of Paso Robles, Calif., Stephen of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Daniel of Middletown, Conn.; and a grandson, two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday March 7, at the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, with a Trisagion Service to be held at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Friday March 8. Entombment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Stamford.
Immediately after entombment, the Makaria Meal will be held at the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory will assist with the arrangements.
