WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Sister Mary Elizabeth Harrington (Sister Mary Maurice), a member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, West Hartford, died March 3. She was 88.

Sr. Harrington was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Providence, R.I., and was the daughter of James Stephen Harrington and Eileen Monica (Varley) Harrington. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph Sept. 10, 1945, and celebrated her perpetual profession of vows Aug. 24, 1951. She had been in religious life for 69 years.

Sr. Harrington received a Bachelor of Science and Education Degree from the Diocesan Sisters College, West Hartford and a Master's Degree in Chemistry and Math at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She also received a Master's Degree in Theology from St. Bonaventure University in New York. She taught in the Archdiocesan Schools followed by 11 years teaching at St. Michael School, Ridge, Md. On returning to Connecticut, she became one of the founders of St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol. Her other ministries were as principal of St. Bridget School, teacher at Sacred Heart Academy, computer consultant for Gartner Group and data analyst for Coast to Coast Telecommunications, all in Stamford.

Sr. Harrington is survived by her Sisters in Community; brother, Thomas Harrington; sister, Maureen Braddock; brother-in-law, Michael Hannigan; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Nancy Baran and June Hannigan; and brother, James Harrington.

Calling hours are Thursday, March 6 from 3 to 6:45 p.m. at the Convent of Mary Immaculate in West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph Chapel. Burial services will be held Friday, March 7, at 9 a.m. from the Convent of Mary Immaculate to the Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery in West Hartford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 27 Park Road, West Hartford, CT 06119.
