Services Set for Kevin Bella, 13, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Kevin W. Bella, a 13-year-old Stamford resident, died Aug. 16 in a dirt bike accident

Bella and his 16-year-old brother, Brandon, were riding dirt bikes in a field off Long Ridge Road when their bikes collided head-on. The brothers were taken to Stamford Hospital, where the younger Bella was pronounced dead. The older brother is expected to make a recovery. Their father, Kevin J. Bella, died suddenly last month.

Bella was born Sept. 29, 1998, in Stamford to Deborah L. Masilotti Bella and the late Kevin J. Bella. He attended Cloonan Middle School. Known as "Kevie" or "Norton," Bella loved being outdoors.

His family said Bella picked up the responsibility of "being the man around the house," after the death of his father. Bella would mow the lawn, clean the pool and make repairs.

When he was not tending to the house or the yard, the family said he and his brother would take apart their bikes and modify them. He also would watch the History Channel for hours and would then test his family about the facts he learned.

Bella is survived by his mother, Deborah L. Bella; two sisters, Jaclyn R. and Nicole L. Bella, of Stamford; a brother, Brandon J. Bella, of Stamford; two uncles; a step-uncle; an aunt; and his paternal grandfather, Edward (Rosemary) Bella. Bella also was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, William and Mary Ellen Masilotti Jr.

A funeral procession will leave Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory in Stamford, at 10:20 a.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will then be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Leo Parish in Stamford. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kevin's Loving Heart through Facebook or People’s Bank, 2586 Summer St., Stamford, CT 06905, for funeral service and medical expenses.
