Services Set For James W. Winn, Retired Darien Police Lieutenant

STAMFORD, CT. -- James W. Winn, who was known as “Pat,” a retired longtime Darien police lieutenant, died Monday, July 20. He was 73.

He was born in Stamford on Oct. 24, 1941, to James O. and Elizabeth Whitlow Winn.

He earned his criminal justice degree from Iona College and served with the Darien police department, where he was remembered for his outstanding service, until his retirement. He belonged to numerous social and civic organizations.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carseina Ham Winn, and siblings, Barbara Winn Schmidt and Ralph "Butchie" Winn.

He is survived by his son, retired Darien police sergeant Kane Winn and daughter-in-law, Susan; daughter Tracy Winn; grandson Carsen; granddaughter Olivia; brother Thomas Winn and sister-in-law Yvonne; and his longtime companion Dolores Burgess.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford, Ct. A service of celebration will take place at 11 a.m. 

Burial will followed at Fairfield Memorial Park. Services are being handled by the Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to 100 Black Men, Mentoring Program, P.O. Box 1313, Stamford, Ct., 96904.
