Services Set For Stamford's Joseph 'Joey' Comunale, 26, Westhill Athlete

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford native Joseph "Joey" Comunale, an athlete at Westhill High School and a graduate of Hofstra University, died Nov. 13. He was 26.

He was born in Stamford on March 9, 1990, to Patsy and Lisa Comunale of Stamford.

Comunale attended Westhill High School and was a member of the state championship baseball team. He also played hockey, which was his true passion. 

He graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in legal studies in business. At Hofstra, he was a member of both the club hockey and club baseball teams as well as of the DSP fraternity, where he met several lifelong friends. He was active in Stamford, where he touched hundreds of individuals at the hockey rink, softball field and socializing with his many friends.

In addition to his loving, he is survived by his sister Alexa Comunale; grandfather Joseph Comunale; and grandparents Antonio and Grace Pimpinella. Also surviving are his aunts and uncles Portia and Eric Horsa, Sal Comunale, Joseph and Lisa Comunale, Rosa and Dominick DiPreta, and Karen and Tony Uva; and cousins; Erica, Kyle, Lauren, Gianna, Nicholas, Amanda, Nick, Sabrina and Michael. He also leaves behind many friends and extended family members. He was predeceased by his grandmother Marrietta Comunale.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at St. Leo's Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Entombment will follow at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich.
