In accordance with his wishes, his organs were donated to the New England Organ Bank to help those in need.

Sterne, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, was the son of Richard Guy Sterne and the late Barbara Kenyon Sterne.

He graduated from Greenwich High School and the University of Maine, summa cum laude, then worked at Greenwich Associates for over three decades, before leaving to create his own consulting firm.

In his free time, he enjoyed sailing on Long Island Sound, skiing, and playing fetch with his two dogs, Skipper and Gilligan. (His cat, Thurston B. Howell III, refused to fetch.)

Sterne is survived by his wife, Priscilla (Pitney) Sterne; their two sons, Peter Jr. and Jack of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his father, Richard Sr. and sister, Hillary, of Tiverton, R.I.; and his brother, Richard Jr. of Ijamsville, Md.

Family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 21, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home.

Sterne was a strong believer in the importance of education and his family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to Regis High School, the all-scholarship Jesuit school in Manhattan that educated both of his sons. Donations should be addressed to: The Hearn Speech and Debate Society, c/o Regis High School, 55 E. 84th St., New York, NY 10028.
