Salvatore Zaccagnino, 86, Of Stamford, Owned Sal’s Variety Shoppe

STAMFORD, Conn. - Salvatore Zaccagnino of Stamford died Sept. 24. He was 86.

Zaccagnino was born May 8, 1927, in Waterbury, son of Nicola and Anna (Imbrenda) Zaccagnino. He graduated from J.M. Wright Technical School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Sal’s Variety Shoppe on Cove Road for 27 years. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus St. Augustine Council 41, and the past president of the North Stamford Lions Club.

Zaccagnino is survived by his wife, Grace (DeBartolomeo) Zaccagnino; daughters, Mary Ann Pasqua, Donna Pappas (Nick), Linda Rosito (John), Sally Lovallo (Bill); brothers, Anthony and Nicholas Zaccagnino; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and sisters, Beatrice Ambrosio and Maria Zaccagnino. 

Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien.
