Rosemary Ryan Magner, 88, Former Stamford Resident

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Rosemary Ryan Magner of Boca Raton, formerly of Stamford, Conn., died Saturday, April 5. She was 88.

Magner was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Stamford. She was the daughter of William and Rose “ Tooher “ Ryan. She was raised in Stamford and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. She was also a graduate of the College of New Rochelle and received her master’s degree in guidance from the University of Bridgeport in 1963.

She worked for the Stamford Public School system from 1948 to 1968 as a guidance counselor, and from 1960 to 1964 she served on the Stamford City Council. She was a longtime member of St. Matthew Parish and St. Lucy Church in Highland Beach. She was also a member of the Shorehaven Golf Club and the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club in Boca Raton.

Magner is survived by her stepsons, Dr. John R. Magner (Cheryl) of San Diego and Kevin P. Magner (Paula) of Wilton, Conn.; sister, Alice R. Devine of Norwalk, Conn.; nine step-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Jack; brothers, Vincent, William and Dr. John Ryan; sister, Rita Iacovo; and stepson, Brian C. Magner.

Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Magner’s name may be made to St. Matthew Church.
