He was born Dec. 23, 1936, in San Mango Sul Calore, Italy, to the late Giuseppe and Generosa D’Elia. He immigrated to the United States in 1962, just in time for the birth of his first child. He loved spending time with his family and making everyone laugh. He operated his own landscaping business and worked until the very end.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Angela Ottaviano D’Elia; his children, Joseph and his wife, Anne Marie, Jenny D’Elia Rivera, Filomena and her husband, Shiva Lamichhane, Lia and her husband, Steve Checca; six grandchildren, Anthony, Frank, Michael and Nicholas Rivera, and Amanda and Olivia D’Elia; a sister, Angela DiNardo; three brothers, Nicola and his wife, Adriana, Antonio and his wife, Clemendina, and Teodoro D’Elia; a sister-in-law, Gerarda D’Elia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Raffaele and Elio D’Elia.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association in his memory.
