Roger Herman Hein, 81, Longtime Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. - Roger Herman Hein, a longtime resident of Stamford, died Monday, June 23. He was 81.

Hein was born June 8, 1933, in Springdale. He was the son of Herman Karl Hein and Flora Eloise Knickerbocker. Upon graduation from Stamford High School in 1951, he went to work as an apprentice carpenter. In 1953 he enlisted in the Air Force working in the carpenter field. His time in the service was spent in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Okinawa, and Korea. After leaving the Air Force in 1957, he worked for his father in the water pump business. After some time, the business merged with Associated Water Industries in Glenbrook where he became part owner. He retired in 1996.

Hein is survived by his sister, Doris Travis of Newtown; son, Douglas K. Hein (Susan) of Holden, Maine; daughter, Sharon L. Buzzeo (Joe) of Trumbull; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Wilma Hein; and twin children, Kenneth and Elaine.

Calling hours are Friday, June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home , 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien. A graveside service and burial will follow at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28 at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave., Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Trinity Episcopal Church , 1734 Huntington Turnpike, Trumbull.
