Robert E. Eppinger, 80, Of Stamford, Co-founder, Eppinger Furniture, Inc.

STAMFORD, Conn. - Robert E. Eppinger of Stamford died Saturday, July 5. He was 80.

Eppinger was born April 17, 1934, in New York City. He attended the University of Michigan, where he studied wood technology, in the School of Forestry and Conservation and then worked in the furniture manufacturing business. He co-founded Eppinger Furniture, Inc. in New York City with his father and his brother James. He was active in Temple Sinai where he served as president for two years during the 1980s. In his retirement he guided groups through Devils' Den in Weston. He was a founding member and officer of the neighborhood advocacy group North Stamford Concerned Citizens for the Environment (NSCCE).

Eppinger is survived by his wife, Paula W. Eppinger; children, Jeffrey (Francesmary Modugno) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Steven (Julie Laukkanen) of Lexington, Mass., and Bruce (Jean Siegel) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; siblings, Carol Salzman of Ojai, Calif., Jean Susan Bronstein of Sunnyvale, Calif. and James Eppinger of Southbury. He was predeceased by his father, Julius M. Eppinger.

The family will be at home until the memorial service at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 13 at Temple Sinai. A shiva service will be held at 7 p.m. at the family home.
