Richard Saunders, 91, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Richard Walter Saunders, of Stamford, died at home on Tuesday, Sept. 1. He was 91.

Saunders was born on Oct. 3, 1923, in New York City to M. Henry and Mary McAlpin Saunders.

He served in the Army, spending 10 months in a military hospital when wounded in World War II.

After his military service, he worked for several small accounting firms and retired as a tax partner at Arthur Andersen & Company.

Saunders is survived by his wife Maureen; five children, Buddy of Arizona, Kenneth of Florida, Bill and his wife Trang, Maureen of Florida, and James; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford on Saturday, from 1:00-3:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at The Basilica of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 279 Atlantic St. in Stamford.

Interment will be private.
