Kalnins was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Riga, Latvia, son of Edward and Marija (Silin) Kalnins. He immigrated to the United States from Latvia at the age of 27. He retired as an executive vice president of F.D. Rich Co, a construction and development company in Stamford.
Kalnins is survived by his wife, Ilga (Lapins) Kalnins; daughters, Antra Borofsky (Richard) of Cambridge, Mass., and Mara Johnson (Garry) of Madison, N.J.; son, Richard E. Kalnins, Jr. (Siobhan) of Watertown; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Edite Helffrich. Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 26 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home. A celebration of Kalnins’s life will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at the funeral home. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
