Richard D. Lacerenza, 84, Ran Funeral Home In Stamford

STAMFORD Conn. -- Richard D. Lacerenza, 84, a member of the Stamford community for nearly 70 years, died on March 2.

Lacerenza was born on Nov. 9, 1930, in Stamford to Anthony J. Lacerenza and Anne Pannone.

He was a graduate of St. Basil's Preparatory School, Class of 1948, and attended New York's American Academy of Embalming and Mortuary Research Inc. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, and was stationed in France during the Korean Conflict.

Lacerenza began his career as a funeral director in 1949. At age 18, he was the youngest licensed funeral director in the state of Connecticut. He continued to preside over the business he loved,  Lacerenza Funeral Home, a Stamford landmark started by his father in 1926, right up until his death.

He was an active supporter of many local sports teams, including Stamford Bocce, National Lione Little League, Stamford Babe Ruth and Recreational Softball programs. He supported numerous organizations, churches and people in a lifetime of service to the community.

In 1947, he met his wife, Angela "Chickie" Tosches. They married in 1955, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past January.

He is survived by his daughters Patti (Bob) Robustelli; Sally (Michael) Macari; Toni; and Tracey. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and son-in-laws Jerry Macari and Richard Terenzio. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Sally Ann Geremia in 2003. 

He will be reposed at the funeral home that bears his name on Friday, March 6, from 3 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.
