Rem Van Nguyen, 91, Longtime Stamford Resident And Jeweler

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Rem Van Nguyen, a longtime resident of Stamford, died March 3 at Stamford Hospital. He was  91.

Van Nguyen was born in 1924 in Vinh Long province, Vietnam. He was the owner of Tan-Thanh, a well known jewelry store in the Tam Binh district of Vinh Long province from 1950-75. He was a major financial supporter for building a Buddhist temple in Vietnam.

Van Nguyen was predeceased by his wife, Phuong Ngoc Tran. He is survived by his three daughters and five sons; Hoa Kim Nguyen and her husband Hue of Trumbull, Van Hong Nguyen and her husband An of Stamford, Thuy Hong Nguyen and her husband Tan of Vinh Long, Vietnam, Son Hong Nguyen and his wife Xuan of Stamford, Tuan Hong Nguyen and his wife Be of Stamford, Chau Hong Nguyen of Webster, N.Y.; Duc Hong Nguyen and his wife Hoa of Stamford; Nga Hong Nguyen and his wife Phuong of San Jose, Calif.. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services from 9-11 a.m. Friday at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford.
