In 1980, he closed the bakery and went to work for Grade A Market on Shippan Avenue, opening their first in-store bakery. He later retired and became a winter resident of Delray Beach, Fla.

After the death of his wife, Horowitz became a full-time resident of Delray Beach, where he met his friend and companion, Rosalyn Cohen.
