SHELTON, Conn. - Paul G. Peterson of Shelton, formerly of Stamford, died Friday, Sept. 20. He was 82.

Peterson was born Nov. 24, 1930, in Stamford, son of Albin and Elin (Johnson) Peterson, and was a Stamford resident for most of his life before moving to Shelton 15 years ago. He was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict, and then went on to a 28 year career with the Stamford Police Department, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. During his career at the Police Department he was one of the founders of the Bomb Squad, and was captain of the scuba team, and was a founder and board member of the Stamford Ambulance Corp. He went on to a second career as a carpenter for the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan for over 12 years until he retired in 2000.

Peterson is survived by his children, Paul Peterson (Teresa), Donald Peterson (Agnes), Gary Peterson (Carol), Kim Sabatino (Ken), Thomas Peterson (Karen), Terri O' Connor (Eamon) and Sharon Bannon (Brendan); 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Rudolph Peterson; and sister, Alice Jarrell.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Riverview Funeral Home , 390 River Road Shelton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church 505 Shelton Ave., in the Huntington Center section of Shelton. Burial will be private Thursday, Sept. 25  in Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery Stamford.
