Ottavio "John" LoMedico, 88, Stamford Resident Served In World War II

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Ottavio "John" LoMedico, 88, of Stamford died on Monday, Feb. 16, after a short illness.

John was born Dec. 8, 1926 in the Bronx, N.Y. to Joseph LoMedico and Anna Barone. Raised in the Bronx, he served in the U.S. Army in the Allied occupation of Japan following World War II.

John was an innovator in his field, changing the way skyscrapers were built in the 1970s. He could design in either steel or concrete. Some of his best work can be seen in Boston, including the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, Charles River Park Apartments and the Harbor Towers on Boston Harbor, which now is indelibly part of Boston's skyline. His work took him around the globe and can be found on buildings in Paris, The Netherlands, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Abu Dhabi, Taiwan and Canada. He enjoyed skiing, golf, fishing, woodworking and shared these loves with his children. 

John is survived by his sister, Carmela Atkinson of Ridgefield; sister-in-law, Angela Soccodato of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; five children, John Joseph LoMedico (Elizabeth) of Andover, Mass., Annalisa DiNucci (John) of Stamford, Julia LoMedico Pollock (Larry) of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Jamie MacMullen (Brian) of Brookfield, Thomas Adam (Jennifer) of Heathrow, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annabel, his parents, his brothers, Joseph and Phillip, and his sisters Betty Mendola, Angie Ingenito and Helen Rella.

Family and friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 at the Nicholas Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave. in Stamford. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. Interment will be private.
