Monsignor William A. Genuario, 84, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Monsignor William A. Genuario, of Stamford, died Wednesday, June 24, at Queen of Clergy Residence in Stamford. He was 84.

Genuario was born in Norwalk to Joseph (Giosue) and Antoinette Gerardi Genuario, and raised there.

He entered the seminary in 1948. He was ordained as a priest in 1956, and served in various roles in the Diocese of Bridgeport: vice chancellor, chancellor, director of planning, administration and development, presiding judge, and vicar general in the diocesan tribunal from 1963 to 1992.

Genuario was in residence at various churches in Bridgeport, Trumbull and Riverside.

He is survived by his sister, Marie Stapkowski of Westport, his nieces and a nephew, Diane Calabro and husband David of Cheshire, Conn., Joan Stapkowski of Fairfield, Marion Toth and husband Imre of Kirkland, Wash., Andrea Douyard and husband Michael of Middlebury, Conn., Sandra Knierim and husband Skip of Dover, N.H., Donna Jones of Trumbull, Conn., and Daniel Stapkowski and wife Tina of Wilton.

Visiting hours will begin on Thursday at 4 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave. in Riverside. A vigil Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m., Thursday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at noon.

Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
