STAMFORD, Conn. - Mary D. Rigney of Stamford died Wednesday, Oct. 23. She was 91.
Rigney was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Sharon, to Edward J. and Katherine Flanagan Downey. She was a registered nurse at Stamford Hospital as a nursing instructor, supervisor and recruiter. After her retirement she was a hospice volunteer for over 20 years and also volunteered at the Church of the Holy Spirit where she was a member. She was active in St. Leo’s Parish Seniors and the Stamford Women’s Club.
Rigney is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Edward S. Rigney; and sister, Margaret D. Hahne.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rigney’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
