Mary Cantalini, 90, Longtime Stamford Resident

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Mary Cantalini, resident of West Hartford and a longtime former resident of Darien and Stamford, died Saturday, Jan. 23. She was 90.

She was born in Stamford on March 7, 1925, to Klyment and Fannie (Korsak) Markevich. She grew up in the South End of Stamford, attended Stamford public schools and graduated from Stamford High School with the Class of 1942.

She was a finance clerk who worked for the City of Stamford for over 30 years until she retired in 1990.

She was a parishioner and choir member at St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church, and was involved with St. John Roman Catholic Church in Darien, where she sang in the choir and took part in their arts and crafts group.

She volunteered at the Darien Senior Center, where she enjoyed working in the kitchen with her friend, Tom. She enjoyed trips to the casino, shopping, desserts, working in her garden and summer vacations to Cape May, N.J., and Vermont.

She is survived by her son Richard (Elizabeth) Pachkovsky; stepdaughter Judith (Steven) Rutter; stepson Dante (Jean) Cantalini; grandchildren David, Damian, Alexander, Eric and Katie; three great-grandchildren; and friend and home companion, Monica (Felicia) Yamoah.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Pachkovsky,; son Robert Pachkovsky; her second husband Louis Cantalini; her sister Nadia Delaney; and grandson, Christian Rutter.

Her family will receive visitors Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church, 141 Den Road, Stamford, with the funeral service starting at 10:30 a.m. The service will be celebrated by the Rev. Vladimir Horoszczak. The interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Mary’s Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church, 141 Den Road, Stamford, CT 06903; The Darien Senior Center, 2 Renshaw Road, Darien, CT 06820; or to the West Hartford Elmwood Senior Center, 1106 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, CT 06110.

The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford.
