Marilyn Norman Esposito, 78, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Marilyn Norman Esposito, 78, died Thursday, April 2 after a long illness.

A lifelong resident of Stamford, Norman was born July 12, 1936, in Jamaica, N.Y., the only child of the late William Norman and Helen McKenna Norman.

She was a 1954 Stamford High School graduate and went on to study at Shorts Secretarial School before marrying Edward J. Esposito of Stamford in 1956. Together, they raised five children.

She pursued a successful career as her children grew. She joined Olin Corporation in 1971 as a sales promotion coordinator and during the next 16 years, she rose to become manager of the department. After retiring from Olin in 1987, she launched her own marketing and communications event planning business, Marketing Communications Consultants in Stamford. Together ,with her son, Edward, she successfully managed the consulting practice for another 20 years.

For nine years, she was a member of the board of directors of the New Covenant House of Hospitality, a soup kitchen serving the hungry in the Stamford area. She was awarded the St. Augustine Medal from then Bishop William Lori of the Diocese of Bridgeport for her work on the board.

In addition to her husband, Edward, of 58 years, she is survived by her daughter Elaine Brown of Monroe; four sons, Richard Esposito of Dallas; Edward Esposito of Stamford; David Esposito and his wife, Dr. Darlene Esposito, of Strasburg, Pa.; and Michael Esposito and his wife, Allison, of Wilmington, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Road., Stamford, with interment following at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rock Rimmon Road, Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in her name to the New Covenant House of Hospitality, 90 Fairfield Ave., Stamford CT 06904.
