Marie DeRubis, 81, Formerly Of Stamford, Owned Hubbard Heights Delicatessen

LAKE ARIEL, Pa. - Marie DeRubis of Lake Ariel died July 13. She was 81.

DeRubis was born July 23, 1931, in Stamford, Conn., daughter of Joseph and Maria DePreta. She was a resident of Stamford for 78 years and relocated to Lake Ariel in January of 2010. She graduated from Stamford High School, class of 1949. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Hubbard Heights Delicatessen for over 35 years.

DeRubis was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, Conn., where she was a member and a past president of the Rosary Alter Society. She was a volunteer for the "Special Olympic" team for many years and active with ARI of Stamford, Conn. She was a golfer on the women's league at Hubbard Heights Golf Course in Stamford and for the past three years at Red Maples Golf Course in South Canaan, Pa.

DeRubis is survived by her children, Jody Terenzio (Gene) of Lake Ariel, Pa., Karen DeRubis of Lake Ariel, Pa., and Richard DeRubis of Stamford, Conn.; sisters, Nancy Spezzano of Riverside, Conn., and Emma Muskus of Stamford, Conn.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 19 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Lewis DeRubis; and siblings, Nicolena Vetrane, Angelina Picciallo, Joanne Piro, Nunzie DePreta and Anthony DePreta.

Calling hours are Thursday, July 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19 at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, donations in DeRubis's memory may be made to The Devereux Foundation, 1547 Mill Creek Road, Newfoundland, PA 18445 which provides services for the mentally challenged.
